Maintenance of fronts in HDPE

The MATCH collection utilizes HDPE, or High-Density Polyethylene, type A 500. Known for its stability and durability, HDPE stands out from other plastics. It is often used in the food industry, particularly for cutting boards, due to its robust and antibacterial properties. In a playful twist, this material has been introduced into kitchens and furniture by the Belgian designer duo Muller Van Severen. Here is some advice on how to clean and maintain the fronts of the collection.

Regular Cleaning

Cleaning HDPE is easy. For daily maintenance, use a soft cloth dampened with lukewarm water and a standard household detergent. After cleaning, dry the surface with a soft, dry cloth to prevent water stains.

Dents and scratches may occur; however, the surface can be polished to restore its appearance. We recommend consulting a professional carpenter and/or testing on an inconspicuous area first.

Preventive Measures

Although resistant, the surface should never be treated with products containing abrasive substances. Using abrasive sponges or harsh materials such as sandpaper or steel wool may leave visible scratches.

Avoid using acidic or alkaline products, heavily chlorinated products, or those containing bleach, as these may stain or degrade the surface.

Lastly, we do not recommend using furniture polishes or wax-based cleaners, as these tend to form a sticky layer on the surface that attracts and traps dirt.
