Worktop in Marble

Marble worktops are matchless when it comes to beauty and elegance.

The cool and soft surface makes the material great for baking while at the same time being heat resistant and durable for cooking and daily use. A disadvantage is that the soft porous material is prone to staining. Therefore, the marble is sealed to prevent staining, this sealant should be reapplied approximately every 6 months to protect the surface properly.

The types of marble for MATCH are the following 2 finishes; Calacatta Viola and Bianco Carrara;

The Calacatta Viola with its characteristic purple veins creates a beautiful and playful yet dramatic result combined with the bold and colourful fronts

The Bianco Carrara with a more subtle grey vein is a more downplayed combination with the colourful fronts. But still leaving a lush expression adding a timeless classic to the mix of flamboyant colours

Pros: Marble is quite durable and withstands a lot of wear.

Cons: As marble is made of limestone, it is not resistant to cleaning products with a low PH value. Please note that some foods such as Cola, lemons, vinegar can corrode or discolour the marble surface.

Maintenance

Cleaning

Dust at least once a week with a soft micro fibre cloth. For wet cleaning, use a damp cloth and a pH-neutral cleaner designed for stone. Check with your local supplier for their recommendations. It is common to use mild soap and water. Put it in a spray bottle and spray the worktop. Wipe and scrub gently with a damp cloth. Rinse the towel and wipe until all of the suds are gone. You can then dry the worktop with a soft towel.

Do not use regular cleaning products that can etch the stone surface over time. Especially avoid cleaning products that include vinegar, bleach, ammonia, lemon juice, orange, or other citrus foods. Never use abrasive cleaners that will damage and dull the finish.

Regular Maintenance

Seal the worktops regularly, as recommended by the manufacturer. Be sure to reseal when water fails to bead up when it splashes on the surface. Sealing will help prevent stains and damage and keep the marble looking beautiful. However, there are some marble surfaces that do not need sealing, so you must check to be sure you are not adding sealers that will just remain on the surface.

For mild etching, look for a marble polishing powder that is approved for that use and follow the directions. Stains will need to be dealt with according to what caused the stain. A baking soda poultice is a general solution for many stains. To make it, mix baking soda with a little water, spread it on the stain, and cover it. After 12 to 24 hours, you gently remove the paste and wipe the area with a damp cloth
